Still here

Well lets just say my kids & I have been spending a lot of 'Mommy' time together.

Imagine, I thought kindergarten was going to free up my days!

Yeah, right.

Besides running a mini hospital, I've had a few other irons in the fire!

began yesterday!

Mary's gluebook is the first project up & luckily I had the supplies needed already in my stash.

In fact the kids sat at the table & made their own little gluebooks while I worked on mine.

Mary gives very detailed information, lots of downloads & examples.

Next week is Hope's lesson, I am crazy about her journals & cannot wait to learn her methods & style.

I'm steadily working on my contribution to the class.

It's not easy writing up these lessons. I tend to use a lot of techniques & elements in my work.

Kansas or Bust!

One of these days the snow is going to melt & the sun will once again show her pretty face. 

To celebrate the arrival of spring, Karla is hosting a weekend of fun, food & creativity called

Bird Songs

I'll be teaching my Nature Pouch project.

I made this bag last winter during a snow storm.

Sound familiar?

Once you learn how to weave them you'll want to make bunches!

I used the same technique to make this memory bag in honor of my Mother.

I used bits of her old coat, watch & other treasures. It holds her bible.

I don't mind telling you I'm a wee bit intimidated to be teaching alongside Carol Spinski & Debbie Dusenberry.

 They are stars to me, totally inspiring!

These projects will chase your winter blues away!

There will be lots of yummy food, snacks, goodie bags & a vendor shopping night.

It will be very surreal to actually be inside 'Karla's Cottage' after reading about it on blogs & in the mags for years.

I'm going to attempt a hat count.

Hum....that could be a great contest, whoever comes closest wins a hat from the hoarder herself.

Redneck Snowsuit

 Let me just begin by telling you I'm not a homebody.

In fact, I'm a little claustrophobic.

 I get really anxious in traffic jams & when flying.

So being house bound the past 5 days,

 (first with sick kids & now with weather)

 has taken a toll on my fragile physique.

 But today we finally got a break from the wind chill & could venture outside.

  

Since we live in Texas not Vermont, we're not equipped with real snow gear.

So we improvise.

You know what a redneck snowsuit is?

Your brothers Spiderman PJ's under overalls. And if it's really cold & wet you can wrap garbage bags around your legs!!

It works.

 Every night during the news I see the school closings running at the bottom of the screen & I break down & sob.

Does that make me a bad Mom?

I miss going out shopping, watching bad TV, & having a little time to myself.

The good news is this forced quarantine has given me lots of time to work on some projects.

Last year I went on a felting binge.

I'm crazy for wool & am finally using some of this enourmous stash!

I'm working on a camping blanket made from a stack of old Pendleton jackets.

I cut my squares, I'll start sewing tonight.

 And more altered books!

This was in the dollar bins at Michaels.  The cover was just tied on so I took it all apart & created something more my style.

 I did a packing tape transfer over  gesso'd cardboard.  Embellished with buttons, both homemade & vintage.
