art supplies

I love art supplies.
When I hear about something new I can't wait to get my hands on it & play!
I also love it when I can replicate the results with things I already have on hand.
A couple of weeks ago I bought this amazing tissue paper by 7gypsies.
As you can tell by the price tag it's not cheap, but just a little bit in the right project is beautiful.

I used some in the windows on this journal page.
When I finish I think it will look pretty cool.
I like to make my own tissue paper using this simple method I learned from Hanne Matthiesen.

Tape a deli sheet to a piece of copy paper.  Make sure to tape it down carefully so it doesn't get caught in your printer.

I copy book pages, journals, anything, it's awesome!

At Paper Cowgirl fellow teacher Shelley Massey introduced me to PenPastels.
I think they've been around for awhile, don't know how I missed them!
I love the consistency & the way they blend on so many surfaces.
I waxed my homemade tissue paper onto cardboard, then applied the PenPastel over the top.

It works go great on wax!

Next I copied this gorgeous picture & used color pencil to add highlights.

Using beeswax I covered her with my tissue paper & added even more depth with the PanPastel.

I'm really happy with the results.

I switched it up on this one, placing the photo on top.

I know this was a short post but the kids are about to explode with excitement
We're on our way to Broken Bow, OK for a week of camping!

Have a great week!

My Paper Cowgirl Post

Another amazing Paper Cowgirl weekend has come & gone.
Once again Cindy outdid herself.
Paper Cowgirls are the coolest...
& classiest girls around!
Also they are uber talented!
Ann-Denise sculpted this amazing gown from over 400 coffee filters!
Pretty cool, huh?
My class went off without a hitch.
I had expert help setting up,
Beth 'hooshed' my table,
& Karla doodled it up.
I think everyone liked their kits.
They started like this.

Don't they look neat all together?
Then after a little wax & fire...
Each box represented techniques I taught in the class.
We managed to burn wax & fibers without setting off the smoke alarms.
(I promise we were not in the classroom Cindy!)
Everyone made the most amazing projects!
See what I mean?

My sweet friend Lisa made this little book for me,
All the girls signed it for me, it's a beautiful keepsake from my weekend.
Thank you so much to everyone who took my class I hope you learned something you can apply to your work.
I always come away from Waxahachie with a big haul, this year was no different.
Zinc engravings from Neat Stuff in McKinney.
Lovely trims from Debbie & Beth.
 Alabaster birds & lovely lace.

I bought about 10 of these scrapbook pages.
The pictures are so playful & the captions in white ink are wonderful!

Sweet Jamie was at vendor night again, & the line was 3 deep!
It was like a clearance sale at Magnolia Pearl!

Had to show these again because they are so killer!

Debbie & Cat has 100s of these slides, I can't wait to create something cool with them.
Well that's it for now.
I'm back to full time  Mother-hood so I'm sweating at the pool,
making Mario Bros costumes & cooking up a storm.
Stay cool & have fun this weekend!

May

Things have been so crazy these days.
I haven't had one minute to sit down & post.
I have been peeking in on you, even if blogger didn't always let me leave my comment.
I leave for Paper Cowgirl Thursday, ready or NOT!
I am so excited!
Since I haven't posted I thought I'd give you a quick re-cap on the past 18 days.
Went to Austin to see my beautiful niece graduate from UT.

Had a panic attack realizing I have only 13 years to save tuition for these guys!

Started cutting coupons.

Relieved anxiety with retail therepy,

& fluffed my mantel.

Which hadn't been touched since Dawn did it in November.

Then Owen got his hand caught in the escalator at the mall.

Traumatized the entire family, thankfully he is okay.

Found this card under Philip's bed days later.
Recovered from that experience & made something.

Volunteered for Splash Day, who knew shaving cream could be so much fun?
Didn't have to do 'bath night'.

Cried at the assembly on the last day of school.
Then laughed & danced a 'tooty-tot .
Said goodbye to my hero's.

 Mrs Clifford......

Mrs McDonald..........
& Mrs Lebreton.
Until next year........

Went to a garage sale, found cool stuff....

Made something with it.
Learned this awesome technique from my new favorite book Plaster Studio by Stephanie Lee & Judy Wise.
Took a nap.

Decided I needed to get busy with Paper Cowgirl tasks.
Gathered things for vendor night.

While gathering I realized I hate this bookcase.

Spent wasted 2 days changing it.
Like it more now.
Started re-fluffing the top of this bookcase.

Went to the Indian Princess family camp-out, ate lots of s'mores.

Came home & gathered more to sell at vendor night.

Took kids to karate.

Where they earned yellow belts!
Yippee!
Lost another tooth.
(not in karate)

Started getting kits together for my Paper Cowgirl class.

Made things to sell at vendor night.
Like these inspiration boards,

& this little storage chest.

Liked it so much, made a baby one.

For no reason at all made this little tiny collage.
Whew,
now you see why I haven't posted!Oh yes & one more thing.
Mr. & Mrs Talking Trash & I are hosting a parking lot sale at the Waxahachie Hampton Inn Saturday morning.
Festivities are from 8 - 11 AM or until code enforcement closes us down!
Donuts will be provided, just bring some coffee & cash.
You don't have to be a Paper Cowgirl to come.
Check out my slide show for a preview!
