A little tutorial

  Where did Winter go?
I cannot believe it's April!!!
It's been very busy here with kitchen remodeling, workshops & kids.
I do find time to play around in my studio, lately its been to organize & clean.
Having friends over for classes' has been good motivation to keep things tidy!

One thing that really needed organizing was my seam binding.
I've tried everything from boxes to hanging them over my desk, but they always end up a jumbled mess.

Keeping things vertical is always a good way to save space so I decided to build up.
I dug through a box of lamp parts to find a base & rod that worked together.

Unfortunately the hole in the seam binding roll was too small.

That was an easy fix with a little drilling.

I didn't like the look of the Hug Snug label so I enlarged & copied a clock face to glue onto the top roll.

I thought about topping it with a pretty doorknob or something but in the end this finial worked best.
Now I just unscrew it to add more rolls.

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I've been playing in the wool pile too:)

I love making patchwork from the white scraps.

I made another camp blanket too.

I swear my sewing machine is going to blow up one day.

I put some spring inspired bundles in my etsy shop.

But this week I'm getting ready for my second home workshop.

We'll be weaving fabric, lace & other scraps into a beatuiful bag to hold precious memories.
The cool thing about this technique is it can be altered & used for many different projects, like this collage.

I taught the class at Karla's Birdsong event a couple of years ago & it was a hit.
Beth shared these photo's of bags she created after the class.

I have space left, so if your not busy Saturday check out my etsy shop for details!

Spring Break

What a wonderful Spring Break!
The weather was perfect for getting out & having fun.

We couldn't get out of town this time, but we brainstormed ideas for our 'stay-cation'.
Some items on our list were:
Zoo, go see Oz, park, rock climbing, eat bacon (Owen's),
museum & make pizza.

I'm proud to say we did everything & more!

Last weekend I hosted my first 'at home' workshop.
I taught my Winter Wool Cottage.

Since this was my first home workshop I didn't advertise, just word of mouth.
That way if it was a huge flop I could do damage control.
But it turned out great, & my plans for monthly classes are underway!

I'm trying to think of something cute to call my classes.
'Workshop at My House' doesn't sound so good.
Beth came up with Lisa MacCraft, LOL

Cami, Linda & Tammy.

The class included supplies & lunch.
I even had a few goodies for sale.

Erica's sweet cottage.

Lily joined us girls & worked on her own project.

Kristi's pink palace~!

Erica brought her friend Sarah along, she fit in great with our crazy group.
Love her red roof!

Lisa & Kristi came all the way from San Antonio.
We turned it into a weekend, hit the Cattle Barns & Funky Finds show on Sunday.

Somehow I missed getting a photo of Jan, but here's her house, sans roof.
Her stitching is absolutely perfect!

Tammy & her Maison de Bling~
If you live near the DFW Metro-plex,  I'd love to have you join me next month.

I'll teach a weaving techinique that is simple & can be used in many different ways.
Seating is limited, the information & registration are here.
 In other news.....
Our kitchen remodel is coming along.

Here's our official 'before' picture.
The hole on the left is from the oven & microwave, they sold on Craigslist.

I was happy to see the soffits go, the kitchen seems so much wider now.

I orignially wanted a commerical style stainless hood cover.
But they were well over our budget, even at Ikea.
Plan 2 was to build our own.
After spending hours on Pintrest & in my inspiration folder we came up with our own design.
The black hood cover came from Sears scratch & dent.
It was originally $425 marked down to $70.

And there it is surrounded in bead board & painted crisp white.
I love the way it turned out.
I'm so lucky that my husband can do anything & is willing to take chances.
It's going to be so fun styling the ledge, for now I'm liking the silver tray.
We put a fresh coat of paint on the lower cabinets, new hardware & stained the butcher  block counters dark.
Since I took these pictures we've done more, but I think I'll hold off on posting them.
When it's  all finished I'll do a big kitchen reveal.

And The Walls Came Tumbling Down

The dust has just settled from our living room project & we're back at it.
This time it's the kitchen.
Before demo...

(I forgot to take a picture before we sold the oven)
We have a galley kitchen want to open the space up by removing the upper cabinets & soffits.

Pretty scary looking huh?
As always we're doing the work ourselves on a tight budget.
Here's the plan,
Fix up existing bottom cabinets
Sand & stain butcher block counters a darker color
Install white subway tile
Find funky old piece for vacant spot left by oven
Hang shelves
DIY vent hood for over range
(have you priced those things???)
Add new stainless appliances like this baby below.

I've been getting lots of inspiration on Pinterest.

 google.com.au

I am so lucky to be married to a man who can do anything & gets my vision.
He's making our house a beautiful home one room at a time!

(sorry about the crooked photocopy)

Besides this, I'm getting ready for my first workshop here at the house.
(I'm trying to think up a cute name)
I'll be hosting 11 girls on March 9 for a day of fun & food.
I have a feeling we'll be eating take-out:)
