Resolutions

I know it's customary to make resolutions on New Years Eve, but I made mine last week when the kids started school.
Now that I have all this 'free time' (ha ha) I'm marking some things off my wanna do list.

#1 Get my etsy store back up
I've got a few things listed including this cute little altered box.

Listing is a lot of work!
I envy people who have 200 things in their shops.  I'm trying to put a few things in my shop everyday, so check back.

#2 Have the biggest garage sale in Texas history!

Along with your usual garage sale favs:
kids clothes, small appliances & curtain rods I'm unloading a ridiculous amount of great stuff!

Debbie told me to advertise it as a 'living estate sale' since I'm selling a lot of antiques & furniture.
 I thought that sounded great!

If your near North Texas check me out Saturday & Sunday.

Some items will go in my etsy shop.

You wanna see how much junk stuff I have?

Look at the size of this storage unit!
(This is after we emptied it out)

I'm not a crazy hoarder
(well maybe a little crazy)
It all started 4 years ago.
My parents died suddenly & I was left with a large estate.
The kids were only 2 then & frankly I just couldn't cope with letting go of everything.
One thing I learned from watching 'Hoarders' is that when a tragic event happens it can trigger hoarding behavior.  After we got this unit to store my parents things I found myself collecting...a lot.
I finally realized that it's the memories, not things that hold my family close.
I used to think it was fun to shop from my stash, now I just feel suffocated by it all.
Well, it's time to let go.

The kids are even getting in on the gig.
Selling old toys & hosting thier first lemonaid stand.
In case you don't read kindergarten, let me interpret.
Lemonaid stab/stand in Texas.
Call me Philip.

#3 Get in shape!

I gained some weight over the summer.  It was too hot to do anything so we spent a lot of time couching & snacking.

I had to give up my beloved Ben & Jerry's, very tough.
I'm trying to satisfy my sweet tooth with low-cal treats.
If anyone has good recipes please share!

Oh, WOW, I see a couple of things that I would tell I'm buying if I were close . . . but I'm not :(

I don't go to garage sales anymore, I only go to ones that say estate sale . . .

Oh to be in Texas for your sale! A dream come true, Lisa.

I've got my eye on that buffet - seriously love it.

Hope your sale does well and letting go is so healthy, I did some today myself. I can breathe a little easier.

Hi Lisa, If you put up for sale your suitcase filled with laces, I'll be right there at your door step on Saturday ;-). I always adore such ceiling tin tiles. They make great decoration pieces. Unfortunately we don't have this kind of ceiling paneling here. I love the sideboard too. You'll do great with your living estate sale. Have lots of fun, sweetie :-)!
Hugs to you,
Julia

Like everybody else, I would love to go to your garage sale- you have the best junk- and after getting rid of a lot of stuff last weekend at the flea market, I know it feels good to lighten your load.

I'm sure Phillip has the best lemonade and cookies in Texas- and you're so smart to use those kids to lure people into your sale. You know I think they should have their own blog.

Keep going on the Etsy shop- even if you only list one or two things a day- it all adds up.

I hear you about the diet thing- so easy to sit down with a bowl (or carton) of Ben & Jerry's in the evening and not even realize how much you've eaten.

Good for you for making resolutions!

Lisa, I hope you have a nice COOL day for your sale! I'll bet you have had enough of the heat.

We've been doing the Splenda thing here too and have eliminated snacks except for WWer's ice cream bars with only 130 calories and no fat. It's our only indulgence! Goodbye taco chips and cookies! *sigh* My favorites.....

Happy Fall Resolutions, girlfriend!

Hugs, Diane

What a sale this will be. The kids are going to clean up selling their goodies too. I'm sure it will feel really good to unload a few things to those lucky buyers. Congrats on opening your Etsy shop again. I do wish they would make it faster to upload photos. I hated how long it took when my shop was open. Best of luck eating better. I'm a big fan of Eatingwell.com Great recipes for snacks, lunch, dinners that will serve up a balanced diet. You can even sort by calories. Gave me some great snack ideas and lunches to keep me going. You can store your recipes too. Good luck!

Best of luck with all your resolutions Lisa!
Like you, I think of Fall as the time for beginnings and I have always loved this time of year best, especially for that reason.
And imagine how light and free you will feel when you no longer have to deal with all that "stuff"?

Wow I wish I lived near you I would so be at your doorstep saturday morning. Best of luck selling your items.

I hear what you say about listing in etsy...it is a pain. Good for you getting things in there each day.

Good luck on your resolutions! Thanks for sharing your treasures and talent with all of us

What a good idea, Lisa - the resolution thing. I always feel like September is the beginning of a new year anyway. I used to think it was because of the school year but now I think it's because I was born in this month. Anyway -- I want to shop in your sale! And I also totally relate to the parents thing -- that's what started my hoard. Before then, believe it or not, I used to TEACH A CLASS IN DECLUTTERING!!!!!!! I also watch the Hoarders shows and pay particular attention to the whole "it started with a tragic event" thing...OMG I just realized, Lisa, you and I are twins!! HA!

I'd drive all the way to Texas just to get a glass of that sweet little boy's limonade. I hope you make a ton on all that great stuff.
Does this mean you won't be starring on my favorite show Hoarders;buried alive?????? Rats!!!
sending big hugs...

Lisa,

My heart flipped at seeing that little green piano!!! I am serious, do you still have it and is it for sale?

I know it hard to part with your parents things and I wish you a huge success with your sale and your new resolutions!

Speaking of shops, mine had been empty for about a year now, maybe I need to take a page from your book and apply your wisdom.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Lisa, good luck with all your resolutions - what do they say 'a change is as good as a holiday'! I wish I lived close to you, I would certainly help to lighten your load a bit, some delightful stuff you have there. I am doing a serious low carb diet and live on salads and vegetables - I have lost 15 lb in 5 weeks :-)
Lisa your children are beautiful well done!

It is hard to let go of items that remind you of your parents. But in time you should be able to select the items that mean the most to you. When my in-laws passed on within months of each other it took years before my hubby was able to let got of even every day items.
Slow and steady on losing weight, eat a little less and exercise a little more. Thanks for stopping by, Laura Cottage and Broome

Oh, my gosh. It looks like a fabulous sale. We are struggling to pare down (and lose weight!). We are at Jud's parents this weekend, moving them into a condo, and getting more stuff. I still am a candidate for the Hoarders!!!
Fondly,
Suz

DOoooh! Looks like I missed a good sale! I collect the beehives. Are they in your Etsy shop? Love that little piano! Call me when you get a chance now that you have a break from couching! LOL

Hey Lisa- I found your blog via Rebecca's- and I had to laugh. How many posts can there by on this paint? I can so relate to the keeping of stuff- after my divorce, I did the same. But recently, I have had a series of sales and gotten rid of so much- and I feel liberated. I hope you do too! My Mom told me - a few memorable things are a treasure but a houseful is a burden... I also decided to get in shape this summer- or start on that path- and did a boot camp for 10 weeks- 45 minutes a day- and it was addicting. I look forward to following your blog. Anita

Hey girl good luck with the sale. I NEED TO DO ONE SOoooooooooo badly! I too have the storage unit but, I can tell you the thought of what it would take to rid myself of all that stuff makes me run for the Ben & Jerry's. HUGS!

Shoot - I was out of town and missed your sale!!! Do you have any goodies left?

Lisa, you made some hard choices, but good for you! I wish I could have been there to hoarde some of your things myself, tho.

I see Phillip with a fine career at Applebees or Chillis some day. "Hello, my name is Phillip and I'll be serving your lemonaide today" is a good start.

karlascottage.typepad.com said...

ps- have you tried fat free greek yogurt? Its rich, creamy, full of protein and you can stir in your own fruit instead of buying that jelly on the bottom stuff. Very satisfying and good for you.

I understand your heart on this matter...when mom passed..I felt and still feel the same way. I wanted all of her things...had to have them...now...it's too much too. Haven't gotten rid of anything yet...maybe one day.

Always a good time to start a resolution even if we don't follow through 100% we're heading in the right direction.
I think watching hoarders has made us all think deeply about anything we start to hoard. Me included!
